I used to take long and solitary walks along the lagoon of my home town Orbetello (Tuscany) at dusk, looking at the still waters and letting memories and thoughts emerge from the silence. The melody and words came spontaneously during one of such walks, years ago. Went back home, sat on the piano and wrote it down. It carries a calm energy and at gigs, the audience seems to connect to it easily, often telling me it was their favourite song. I want to share it with the world now.

Lyrics

I miei passi risuonano stanchi
Seguendo i lampioni del cielo
I miei passi risuonano stanchi
Nel silenzio
Nel silenzio

E fu così che un bel giorno di Luglio
Mi ritrovai a donare una mano
Ed a stringerne un'altra
E guardarla negli occhi e pensare
La amo e non glielo dirò

E spesso guardando la laguna al tramonto
Insieme ai gabbiani che girano in tondo
Le mie memorie si fondono insieme alla luce lunare
E ad amici passati

I miei passi risuonano stanchi
Seguendo i lampioni del cielo
I miei passi risuonano stanchi
Nel silenzio
Nel silenzio

E adesso son qui a pensare e a guardare
Come ogni giorno quel monte argentato
Che in fondo son certo ogni donna ogni uomo e bambino
Avrà visto e ammirato nuotar

E fu così che lei mi disse addio
E che forse le sarei mancato
Come a me adesso mancan quei giorni
Passati a sognarla per sempre con me

Long ago in Orbetello in a November evening
I found myself in an empty road
That lead me back into that deep place
In our soul that I hope is shining
Those thoughts flew shy
In the immensity of an eternal travel
And into the encounter of different people
More and more beautiful each day

My steps resound tired
Following the sky's street lamps
My steps resound tired
Into the silence
Into the silence

And therefore on a beautiful day in July
I found myself giving a hand
And holding another
And look her in the eyes and think
I love her but I won't tell her$

And often looking at the lagoon at sunset
With the seagulls turning in circles
My memories merge into the moonlight
And into passed friends

My steps resound tired
Following the sky's street lamps
My steps resound tired
Into the silence
Into the silence

And now I am here to think and look
Like everyday that silver mountain
That after all I am certain every woman, every man and child
Must have seen and admired swimming

And that's how she told me goodbye
And that maybe she would have missed me
Like I miss now those days
Spent to dream of her forever with me
